Human trafficking is the trade of humans for exploitation in the form of forced labour, debt bondage, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, organ removal among others. Modern slavery is an umbrella term used for all forms of exploitation.

The United Nations defines Human Trafficking as:

“the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.”

Article 3, paragraph (a) of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons

Our belief is that no one deserves to be sold, held in captivity and made to work or perform acts against their will. Modern slavery is a crime that affects us all and requires all of us to play a part in making sure that it comes to an end. Our hope is to one day live in a world where people are not trafficked, a world where people are not held in captivity, a world where freedom actually means freedom.
